Put your drawing and painting skills together to bring your sketchbook pages
to life. Weʻll review drawing fundamentals then add in ideas for lively
compositions and layer on color elements. See what line and color can do
together when theyʻre teamed up. These are great techniques for your travel
journal, your regular drawing practice, or as a warm-up or testing ground for
more finished larger-scale paintings.

Supplies: sketchbook approx. 6×9, permanent ink pen like Micron series,
small watercolor set, brush or pen brush with water reservoir barrel, water
container, paper towels

Artist and writer Tamara Moan lives and works in Kailua, Hawai‛i. She received her art
training at the University of Washington, earning a BFA in graphic design in 1985, and
later received an MA in literature and creative writing from the University of Hawai‛i. She
exhibits her artwork regularly in Hawai‛i. Her paintings are included in the collection at
Aulani Disney Resort, in the maternity ward at Kapi‛olani Medical Center in Honolulu,
and in the collection of the Hawai‛i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Since
2001 she has taught art classes to students aged 3-85, often focusing on projects
relating to travel, book arts, and experiences in the natural world. Her work may be
